Extracting Information from the Census

Study the B. S. Gifford household, dwelling 1374, in the census image. I will use this enumeration to illustrate some ways I enter extracted census information in TMG. How you interpret and apply evidence from any source is very subjective. This page takes you through my own procedure.



Circa dates are those for which there exists direct evidence allowing a date, usually accurate to two years, to be calculated. Back
Say dates are those for which indirect evidence exists allowing one to infer a date. For example, a man paying taxes would be at least 21 years old; the marriage of a couple usually preceded the birth of the first child by about two years; etc. Back
