Starting the file transfer

To initiate the file transfer session, your URL must contain the following:
ftp://userid@users.freepages.rootsweb.com/

ftp://   The ftp protocol is to be used
userid  Your userid (I used elsi, you'll use your own)
@users.freepages.rootsweb.com/   The name of the server

Netscape will connect to the FTP server on FreePages and prompt you for your password:

You are then presented with the contents of your account root directory.  Note that your account is preloaded with a number of directories (folders) -- one for each of the RootsWeb Communities, in fact.  If additional Communities are created, you'll find extra directories in your FreePages account.

All your topic directories

You must be in one of these directories before you can upload files; uploading into the account root directory is forbidden.  I selected the crafts_html directory and opened it by double-clicking the name of the directory just like following a link in a web page.

Now it's time to upload your file. Click on "File" and then "Upload File..."

Upload File

And find your file in the file selection box that is presented

Click the Open button to start the upload. You'll see a message that uploading is taking place in a small window and a progress bar at the bottom of the browser.

When the upload completes, Netscape will display the updated directory contents.
